Kaddar and Kadaj; with their names can’t you just see them as long lost brothers or something? Either way, anywhere Kadaj goes he’s bound to go nuts. And with the swordfights he gets into, I’d really like to see a showdown between him and Alanna!

Now that i see all the other contest pieces, I realize it's more conceptual than anything else, the pic isn't that straightforward...

ANYWAYS, Contest piece for , Crossing Worlds

Now I get to talk your ear off.

I originally did this pic not knowing you could include yourself or your own characters in the contest pic, but this came out better than I expected anyway. I started only with the fact that Kaddar, prince of Carthak in Emperor Mage, had a name SO similar to Kadaj from Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children (remnant of Sephiroth, for all you who haven’t seen it). The names stood out at me right away when I read Emperor Mage, and this contest gave me the chance to draw them together. Funny enough, the more I looked at the two characters, the more their worlds had in common.

When you look at them as characters, they’re dramatically different. Kaddar is a good willed prince who we suspect will become a good ruler, and Kadaj is a young violent avatar of Sephiroth, only obsessed with obtaining the Jenova cells that made him. It’s looking at the stories behind them that makes a lot of sense. Kadaj’s final goal in finding Jenova’s head will unite him with all those who share Jenova cells and will in the end destroy the planet. Kaddar’s uncle Ozorne (who I’m sorry, has a name that sounds like pasta if you pronounce it right) is hell bend on just being evil, and his magical endeavors will pretty much give the goddess Chaos the ability to engulf the mortal and divine realms into a pit of darkness. Goldstreak the darking at the right is a symbol of Ozorne, but also represents the fact that no one is completely evil, otherwise darkings would never help out Daine and Numair.

As far as the worlds themselves, I think it’s kind of funny to think that Jenova and Chaos are the same, hence the split female figure in the sky. Jenova was a calamity that fell from the sky and landed on earth, and that’s kind of what would happen if chaos was unleashed. And if you regard the text at the bottom, it’s also fun to think that the two worlds could be linked. Think about it, no one knows what lies beyond the roof of the world, why can’t it be the Northern Cave from FFVII where Jenova’s head was found? It’s also the perfect combination of Sci-Fi and Fantasy that no one saw coming.

Sorry for the rant, but I had to explain myself.
